Job Requirement
The Media & Public Relations Specialist will work closely with the Communications and Deputy Managers to manage media engagement and cultivate and enhance collaborative working relationships within the press and publicity community. Applicants must have a background in media management or public relations, and experience with leading and maintaining marketing strategies that pertain to public relations. Our ideal candidate is media savvy and has hands-on experience in creating innovative campaigns to engage with the public and media.
The role requires strong communication skills, sharp knowledge of industry trends, and the ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders, thought leaders, and the mass media.
The candidate should have a strong professional network of media contacts, media management skills and the professional ability to navigate sensitive subjects.
Responsibilities
Core
Build strong relationships and networks with the media and relevant external stakeholders in coordination with the Communications & Deputy Managers Promote PSW’s objectives to its key audiences through the development of media communication products and press materials for awareness-raising, including the drafting of media/press briefings and releases, distribution to the target groups and monitoring of the preparation of press clippings; articles and stories for advocacy, projects and programs; newsletters, e-news, videos and social media updates before major events with the right media partners.
Effectively liaise/network with a group of relevant media personnel and journalists with the objective of developing and encouraging partnerships between PSW and media bureau services for media support
Leverage your own professional media network for complimentary high-level placements in electronic/broadcast, print and online media Maintenance of close contacts with national and international media, OGAs, civil society and private sector.
Develop and maintain an up-to-date spokesperson matrix/stakeholder mapping Prepare communications for workshops, events, and seminars including developing agendas, project plans, minute-taking, and production of reports Support the development and successful implementation of communications and stakeholder engagement plans, including detailed tactical delivery plans Ensure PSW’s image is protected and promoted in a proper, coordinated, and consistent manner Planning and Coordination Work collaboratively with the Communications team, in planning for, organizing, and participating in high quality and result-based events and activities, launching of flagship initiatives Preparation of talking points and speeches for Senior Management, as needed Coordinate for media invitations and attendance at PSW events Promotion and maintenance of public information campaigns, packaging, promotion and dissemination of corporate IEC materials for said events, engaging outsourced events organizers and ensuring media follow-up to monitor media coverage, as needed In consultation with the Communications and Deputy Managers, ensure effective and efficient logistic support to media and press events Arrange/conduct programs such as speaking engagements, roundtable discussions, press conferences, interviews and conventions, dealing with public relations, advertising companies and production houses as necessary.
Conduct advocacy work and prepare communications products for projects, and facilitate projects visits for media as needed Tracking Develop and maintain a record of all media appearances and prepare and communicate findings in monthly PR reports Monitor the media, including newspapers, magazines, journals, broadcasts, newswires, social media sites, and blogs, for opportunities for PSW
Ensure published content is updated on the PSW website Qualifications and Experience BA/MA degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Advertising, Communications, or a related discipline 3 to 5 years of experience designing and executing successful PR and stakeholder engagement campaigns preferably in the development/public sector.
This can be either inhouse or as part of a PR agency Strong relationships with both local and national business and industry media outlets Experience in conducting both broadcast and print media interviews Exceptional communications and presentation skills with the ability to write, speak and edit in English and Urdu Ability to influence, motivate, and collaborate with others and navigate politically sensitive subjects and contexts and maintain constructive relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders
